Full Circle Career 1975-2025

Physiotherapy Graduating Class- June 1975 (I am 3rd from the left, second row) The 2025 calendar is exactly the same as it was in 1975, with New Year's Day on a Wednesday, our 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, April 26th and the end of the year on a Wednesday. In May 1975, a week after we were married, I started my eight-week junior internship at St. Mary's General Hospital. My final exams were in August, and in September 1975, I started my eight-week senior internship at another hospital in the city before securing a full-time position as a licensed physiotherapist. I completed my junior internship 50 years ago today, on Friday, June 27, 1975. I didn't work at St. Mary's again until after I retired from full-time work in 2020. The last five years of part-time work have been rewarding, bringing my career full circle from its start in this community in 1975. May 5th

Magnolias on our street Mom would have been 93 years old today. Her mother died a few weeks shy of her 94th birthday, which would have been on May 10, 1990. Mom was so sure she would outlive Grandma and had a bucket list that would have kept her busy well into her nineties. While I miss her, I am glad she missed many events and losses in the past 12 years. But this week of May is one of the most beautiful of the year in our province, and I enjoyed memories of past birthday celebrations with Mom and Grandma while I wandered about outdoors this morning. The week has been cool and cloudy, but the weather has prolonged the blooms of early spring shrubs and trees. Magnolia tree blossoms have been spectacular! Earth Day Nature Walk

Hepatica among the Trillium leaves Today is Earth Day +1, but I was working yesterday and mindful that it was also the anniversary of Mom's passing in 2013. Today was a warm, sunny spring day, when spring buds double in size and tree branches start to show subtle colour. Forsythia bushes were covered in bright yellow flowers by evening. Steckle Woods is near our home, with well-groomed and easy-to-walk trails. We visit the site frequently. John and Esther Steckle were Mennonites who settled and farmed here in 1833. Susannah Chase Steckle , born in 1898, married John and Esther's grandson, John Steckle II. She was the first woman to graduate from Guelph's Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) in 1921. Her father and husband were also graduates of the college. Susannah went on to plant the first commercial apple orchard in Waterloo County and was very active in the community..
