Our dog, Raven, loves snowy walks in the woods near our home. We walk here in early spring, late fall and winter, the months when mosquitoes and ticks are less common. Raven will be 14 years old in a few weeks. She has thrived for 14 months since the vet gave her a grave diagnosis at the end of 2023. She gets Librela, a monthly injection for arthritis and takes gabapentin daily for neuropathic weakness and pain that originates in her spine. Over the years, her veterinary costs have been very low and her current medications are affordable. Raven has been the best of dogs. Our grandchildren also consider her their pet and include her as a family member. It is unfortunate that pets do not live as long as their humans!
Our old pup enjoyed a 2-kilometre walk in the bush today and went at least twice as fast as me.
Here are some pictures of other winter walks over the past decade.
I know with certainty that the walks have kept us both younger than our years.
Where does time go!?
