A Prayer Regarding Abortion

Faithfulness springs forth from the earth and righteousness looks down from heaven. Ps 85

Someone, who assumed that I was an anti-abortion person, asked me to pray that abortions would not done in a particular hospital in Ontario. For the record, I am pro-life but not anti-abortion and do not support the stance of politically inclined evangelical Christians in North America. I wrote out this prayer in response.

My Prayer Against Abortion

Our Gracious Heavenly Father

I pray for women everywhere.

I pray that abortion will no longer need to be a consideration for them.

I pray for girls who are molested by family members or acquaintances-

Fathers, brothers, uncles;- men who make them believe abuse their fault,

men who would destroy their sense of self-worth.

I pray for girls and women who have been assaulted by pastors, priests, teachers

and leaders of the Christian church that their abusers would be exposed for their

hypocrisy and spiritual abuse.

I pray for those who are victims of sexual assault in times of war, from strangers

who prey on vulnerable girls and women. I pray against the loss of life in war

and the violence that is a consequence of man’s quest for power.

I pray for the foreigners and refugees who face economic hardship, discrimination

and violence as they seek a home where they can live in peace and safety.

I pray for the wives and daughters who live without the support and resources to

raise healthy families.

I pray for vulnerable women and children who are trafficked for profit, sex and

pornography, that those of us who may choose to turn a blind eye to their suffering will

turn and plead their cause. I pray for the millions who choose to watch pornography,

that they would recognize its destructiveness and the plight of victims in the industry.

I pray for those who face the challenges of raising children with profound disabilities, that

they would have the resources and support from others to care for them lovingly.

I pray for families, that husbands would love their wives as Christ loved the church, with

the humble heart of a servant. I pray that our children will see us treat family members

of all generations with love and compassion so they learn respect for all people.

Father, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Let us not be judgmental and self-righteous, picking only one cause to represent your Church. May we seek grace and mercy for all who are in need and oppressed. Help us demonstrate your justice. peace and wisdom as we live in a way that is holy and acceptable to you.

Amen
