Six Decades of Sibling Birthdays

My youngest brother Stephen will turn 60 next week. We are five siblings born between 1955 and 1964 and I am nine years and nine months older than the youngest of my four brothers. Once every ten years, we are all in the same age decade. We will all be in our 60s for the next three months. The pictures above were all taken in 2024 and our eligibility for seniors' discounts would not be questioned. The middle photo in the second row shows Stephen a few weeks ago when he was very ill in hospital. It was touch and go regarding his likelihood of reaching his 60th birthday. Thankfully, he is now at home as he regains his strength.

This picture was taken in March 1965. Stephen was five months old and our family was still recovering from a serious car accident in January 1965 that left our parents with significant injuries. I was ten years old and happily assumed "surrogate mom" status for the two youngest boys. I adored my "little brothers" and, as a bossy older sister, likely fought too often with my two older brothers.

Here are the five of us in 1966. About ten years later, our parents and three youngest brothers moved to Mexico. We were rarely in the same place at the same time after that.

Four of us with Dad on May 30, 2015- We were all in our 50s a few months before this picture was taken

Our lives have taken different paths but we keep in touch with each other regularly. I am thankful that we are all here to celebrate Stephen's 60th on October 8th.
