Early September Mornings

The sun rises as I leave for work and the days are noticeably shorter as the fall equinox approaches. The arc of the sun's path is lower in the sky creating long shadows in the morning and evening. I love still, misty mornings where cool air meets earth warmed by weeks of summer sun. In a few weeks, the mists will harden to frost.

I pause by the peaceful pond where ducks paddle silently across the water.

A sentry tree faces the rising sun, the leaves on its outstretched limbs already orange and falling along the trail. Spring came early this year and the leaves seem to be changing early too.

Sumac and goldenrod colour the foreground and tall grasses sway their dry heads in the breeze. On my days off I pedal through this nearby natural area before the sun is hot.

Autumn is my favourite season and so far, this one is proving exceptional in every way.
